Vigil is a piece that originated out of my work that looks at the figure of David Beresford Pratt, who made an attempt on Prime Minister H.F. Verwoerd’s life in 1960. It is a series of ceramic pistols, each one different from the other, but all originating from the same form. I was interested in ideas of masculinity and the contrast between mechanical and bodily associations.
